Asian Cultural Experience (ACE) sends out its newsletter seasonally (spring, summer, fall, winter). You can read this in your email or click on the heading to go to the main site and view older issues. You may also receive occasional shorter bulletins regarding special events.

Happy holidays to everyone! We recently enjoyed the Temple Mochitsuki (Japanese New Year celebration and mochi-making) at the Salinas Japanese Buddhist Temple. This fun, work-intensive event, followed by lunch together, involved primarily Buddhist Temple and ACE members, and our wonderful service-learning students. But next year, the temple is considering a more public Mochitsuki.

Three photos. Photo No. 1 shows a group of half a dozen temple volunteers making mochi. Photo no. 2 shows 2 volunteers tending a triple steamer with lots of steam coming out. Scenes from Mochitsuki, Salinas Buddhist Temple

Last year, the Buddhist Temple of Salinas had to cancel their New Year bonsho bell-ringing event but this year it looks like a GO. We hope you will be on hand to help ring in the new year, while ringing out a few things you’d like to let go of: December 31st, 1 pm at the Buddhist Temple of Salinas, 14 California St., Salinas.

Yes, the New Year is coming soon! For some Asian countries, 2023 will be the year of the Water Rabbit.
